What does the trainer actually do?
PuttOUT describes a folding ramp with a target at the base and a small micro-target within the ramp. The maker says a ball will stay in that micro-target only with the required line and pace, equivalent to rolling about 18 inches beyond a missed hole. Treat that as the product’s designed challenge, not a universal instruction for every putt on every green.
The maker also describes a return action for successful putts and rejection of overhit edge putts. We have not independently measured how closely this recreates the behaviour of a real hole.
| Equipment | Main role | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Putting mat | A repeatable rolling surface | The supporting floor still matters. |
| Premium Pressure Putt Trainer | A target and micro-target challenge | It is not a complete green simulator. |
| Putter and normal golf balls | Your familiar stroke and contact | Indoor results do not establish your on-course score. |

Check the variant before ordering
This guide concerns the Premium Pressure Putt Trainer. PuttOUT also sells a Classic trainer, mats and bundles. A photograph containing several accessories does not establish that all of them are included.
A useful first drill: separate the target from perfection
Start with an achievable distance and a clear aim. Roll ten balls towards the normal target area, recording the result of each attempt. Watch for a recurring miss to one side or inconsistent pace rather than immediately chasing the micro-target.
For the next ten, use the micro-target challenge if you want a harder task. Keep those scores separate. Failing to retain a ball in the tiny target is not the same as proving that the putt would have missed a normal hole.
This is a suggested practice structure, not a tested coaching programme. If you are making the same miss repeatedly, a lesson or a careful setup check may be more useful than simply hitting another hundred balls.
Vary the task so the mat does not do all the thinking
A straight indoor lane can become very familiar. Move between two or three sensible distances, step away between attempts and repeat the routine you would use on the course. Record the distance alongside the result so a harder session is not mistaken for deteriorating technique.
You do not need a complicated spreadsheet. A note such as “three feet: eight normal-target successes from ten” is enough to make the session purposeful. Keep the practice area clear, particularly if children or pets share the room.
What it cannot tell you
The trainer cannot decide how to read a slope, how much pace a damp green needs or how a particular surface will break. A result on your home carpet is a result on that surface. Take the same routine to a real practice green and learn how it changes outdoors.
It also cannot diagnose every reason for a miss. The ball’s start line, your setup and the practice surface can all be worth investigating. Avoid treating a single retained ball as proof of a permanently improved stroke.
Should you buy the mat as well?
First try to identify the gap in your current setup. If you already have a level, consistent surface, the target may be the only extra item you want. If the ball wanders across uneven carpet, a target at the end will not fix the floor.
Our PuttOUT Medium Putting Mat guide looks at the space required. For the whole room, see our small-space home golf practice guide. The broader putting-aids guide covers other approaches.
Verdict
The Premium trainer is a reasonable addition for someone who already practises and wants a clearly defined challenge. I would prioritise the surface and a repeatable routine first. Buy the target when its feedback gives your sessions a purpose, rather than expecting the purchase alone to lower your scores.

FAQs
Does it include a putting mat?
Do not assume that it does. Check whether the chosen listing is the trainer alone or a bundle.
Does every successful putt stay in the micro-target?
No. The micro-target is a more demanding challenge than simply reaching the normal target area.
Will it guarantee fewer three-putts?
No. We have not tested a scoring benefit, and real greens require skills that a flat home setup cannot reproduce.
